"TAG is upscale downtempo music for the recently
unemployed," laughs glamorous blonde renaissance
woman and chanteuse, Adriana.
Sultry and satirical,Tag is the cool comeback of
the co-founder of the tropical funk mega-band,
Kid Creole and the Coconuts. It's a voice we've
been waiting to hear -- a grown woman making
intelligent witty chill-out songs with personality.
Kaegi's smooth sound hovers in a sophisticated
continental zone set somewhere between electronic
lounge and dance. For Adriana, the flow between
musical styles is as easy as the way she moves
between choreography and the video blogging she does on dearaddy.com.
"To me it's all the same; it's all based on rhythm and mood, whichever multimedia work I'm engaged in," explains Adriana. "That's how I create my choreography, edit my images and record the music I hear in my head."
To know that Adriana's music is very necessary, check out C'est Ma Vie, a contemporary dancefloor answer to proud girly classics like I'm Every Woman; the scathing, hilarious When the money runs out and Blue Blooded Blues -- prophetically written before our current crash but right on time -- and the very real Is It Love and Garden Of Sin, whose film noir ambiance is an arresting setting for a fresh take on today's romance.
While she was touring the world with Kid Creole and the Coconuts, Adriana was Mama Coconut, responsible for the exotic choreography and costumes that sealed the group's superstar status. Adriana also sang with U2, Tawa Tai and Miguel Bose before striking out solo.
She has been writing her material and learning the technology that enabled her to create the tracks for the sarcastic rap, Hamptons, the funky riff of Oh La La, and the addictive instrumental, International Intrigue.
Adriana gathered a team of clever collaborators. She worked with top commercial composer and neuro-musical expert Lance T. Massey
to create C'est Ma Vie, and writer/post-punk musician Vivien Goldman for lyrics and top line on tracks like Is It Love and the dreamy It Feels Like. Adriana's musicians are Micah Gaugh on sax and keyboard, drummer Kevin Tooley, Danny Bloom on bass and guitar, percussionist Mikey Sevilla and David Moore on musical saw. The Blaxploitation voice on What You Got is Darman and her assistant producers are Patrick Grant and Heiner Zwahlen.
The new wave of women in electronica like Lady GaGa are changing pop. With a chic cosmopolitan sensibility that's sexy and smart, it's only right that a natural born pioneer like Adriana should be on its front line to take female digi-pop to another, savvier level.
"Because of my interest in technology, I have acquired the skill set to be a truly independent artist, recording, producing, promoting, selling -- even down to making my own promotional video." Adriana says with some satisfaction. "Now I don't even
need live musicians -- though I will always love mixing them in with my electronic music. I guess the times have caught up with my dreams."
